Description

Located in Saint-Elzéar-de-Témiscouata, the Sentier de la Butte du Bonhomme-Blanchet offers a short 2.6-km round-trip hike that takes you through a mixed forest and along a ridge shaped by the winds. The steady climb on the way up (130 m elevation gain), featuring one of the longest staircases in Eastern Quebec (3 sections of stairs), leads to a lookout offering a 240-degree panoramic view all the way to the mountains of Maine.

A local legend associated with the hill enriches the visit and is part of the community’s heritage. Although the trail is accessible, it includes steep sections and uneven terrain that require proper preparation. Appropriate footwear and clothing, water, and caution are recommended to fully enjoy this unique nature experience.

Parking is located at the Les Chevaliers des Frontières Snowmobile Club chalet at 584 Chemin Blanchet, and the trail’s welcome sign is just a few meters away.

Access is from the parking of the Snowmobile Club "Les Chevaliers des Frontières" on the road to Saint-Elzéar. A panoramic view with the state of Maine in the background is explained with an orientation table.
